Emma Adams

Emma Adams writes for theatre spaces, unusual places, and screens. Her writing is often fantastical and surreal, ranging from dark political satire for adults through to adventure comedy for children. National tours include: Home Sweet Home (Freedom Studios), a magic-realist, multisensory, immersive theatre experience for older audiences, gaining 4 Stars from the Guardian; Forgotten Things (Red Ladder), shortlisted for the Meyer-Whitworth Award; Ugly (Red Ladder), published by Oberon Books. Other work includes: Northern Big Board (Chol/Slung Low), a site-specific adventure for families at Shipley Pool; Freakoid (Ovalhouse), a one-woman, sci-fi, queer-future, who-dun-it (nominated for an Off West End Theatre Award); Brimming (Dep Arts), part of The Enough Project, a surreal, dark comedy about surviving emotional abuse; Fix This (Space2), based on research with teenagers and parents living with self-harm, touring to schools in the North. Emma was Writer in Residence during West Yorkshire
Playhouse’s New Writing Season 2012, attended The Royal Court invitation group 2013 and was selected for Accelerate – the Lowry/Jerwood Programme for Artistic Development 2013/14. When not writing Emma lectures parttime at Northern Film School.
