Premee Mohamed is an Indo-Caribbean scientist and speculative fiction author. She is known for her Beneath the Rising series and various novellas. In 2022, she won the Nebula and World Fantasy Awards for her novella And What Can We Offer You Tonight.
Premee Mohamed was born in Edmonton, Alberta. She earned two Bachelor of Science degrees in Environmental Science and Molecular Biology from the University of Alberta.
Her past roles include Capital City Press Featured Writer and guest editor for various literary outlets. Analog, Augur, and Nightmare Magazine have published her short fiction. In 2017, her story Willing was nominated for the Pushcart Prize.
Mohamed's Beneath the Rising series has been a finalist for the Crawford, British Fantasy, Locus, and Aurora Awards. Her novella You Tonight' won the Nebula and World Fantasy Awards in 2022. The Annual Migration of Clouds earned her the Aurora Award the same year. She also has been a finalist for prestigious awards, including the Hugo and Ignyte.
Her writing often includes strong female characters and themes. Mohamed encourages writers not to dilute their work for gatekeepers.
Mohamed is the 2024 Writer-in-Residence at the Edmonton Public Library. She also serves as an Assistant Editor for Escape Pod.
She has judged for CBC and Dream Foundry, among others. Represented by Michael Curry of the Donald Maass Literary Agency, she is a member of several professional writers' associations.
Now, Premee Mohamed is a policy specialist at Alberta Environment and Parks. She lives in Edmonton.
