Between 2004 and 2011, I worked as a writer at The New York Times Magazine, where I wrote about science, business, society, and (sometimes) economics. In March 2012 Penguin Press published The Idea Factory: Bell Labs and the Great Age of American Innovation. This is my first book.I’ve travelled to California and Silicon Valley more times than I can count, but I’ve spent all of my life on the east coast.
