Brendan Wenzel

Brendan Wenzel is an American illustrator and New York Times bestselling author based in Brooklyn. His book They All Saw a Cat received a 2017 Caldecott honor.

With both of his parents being artists, he grew up drawing and interested in making books. In 2003, Wenzel graduated from Pratt institute. His work has appeared internationally in children's books, animations, and magazines.

In 2014, he began his children's book career illustrating Some Bugs and Some Pets by Angela DiTerizzi. His debut as both author and illustrator was the book They All Saw A Cat, released in 2016. This book ended up in an eight-publisher auction before the manuscript was even complete.

"They All Saw A Cat took shape during a time period when I was processing many fantastic and expanding experiences from several years spent living abroad off and on, both in Nepal and Vietnam. A ton happened during our time out of the U.S., so countless encounters and odd ideas found their way into the book," Wenzel says.

Currently, he continues to write and draw books for children.

Brendan Wenzel and his wife, Magdalena, reside in New York.
