Sarah Rees Brennan

Sarah Rees Brennan is an Irish author known for her young adult fantasy novels. She is best known for her critically and commercially acclaimed debut novel, The Demon's Lexicon (2009), and her subsequent work, In Other Lands (2017).

Sarah Rees Brennan was born and raised in seaside Ireland. Sarah completed her education in London, graduating with an MA in Creative Writing from Kingston University. She began her career in the literary field, working as a librarian in Surrey, England.

Sarah's writing journey started at a young age, and she has been crafting stories since she was five. Her dedication to writing bore fruit during her time at Kingston University, where she penned The Demon's Lexicon. This novel was the first in a trilogy published by Simon & Schuster under a three-book contract. The series was well-received, earning starred reviews from prominent publications like Kirkus Reviews and School Library Journal.

Her other notable works include the Lynburn Legacy series, with titles such as Unspoken (2012), Untold (2013), and Unmade (2014). She has also collaborated on popular series, including the Shadowhunters Universe with Cassandra Clare and the novelizations of C.S. Pacat's Fence. Additionally, Sarah authored the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina series, with books like Season of the Witch (2019) and Path of Night (2020).

In 2017, Sarah faced a significant personal challenge when she was diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Despite this, she kept on writing and publishing, showing real resilience and dedication to her craft. Her novel, In Other Lands, won the Bisexual Book Award for Teen/Young Adult Fiction and was nominated for several other prestigious awards, including the Lodestar and the Mythopoeic Award.

Sarah's achievements extend beyond her written works. She has been a finalist for the Lodestar, Mythopoeic, and World Fantasy awards and nominated for the Carnegie Medal. In 2023, she was recognized as a Literature Wales Emerging Writer.

Her latest work, Long Live Evil (2024), marks her first foray into adult fiction.

In addition to her novels, Sarah's short stories and poetry have been published in various anthologies and literary magazines.

Sarah Rees Brennan currently resides in Dublin.
