He tucked my hair behind my ear in a too-familiar motion. “Wouldn’t want anything to happen to you.” His fingers paused at the sensitive spot right below my ear.

She peered out the window and shook her head. “This isn’t the way to the airport.”

“No.” I loved this part. She could finally feel the web around her.

“I never want to hurt you.” He shook his head. “I’ll kill anyone who does.”

“You aren’t the first to call me that, though I prefer high-functioning psychopath.”

“Just let me go home.”

“You are home.”

Nature, not nurture, had created my monster.
