B.H. Newton is an American author known for his gripping and thought-provoking tales of horror that combine elements of Southern Gothic and epic stories.
Born in Tennessee, Newton spent much of his youth travelling the United States, living in places as diverse as Alaska and Texas. After graduating from high school in Alaska, Newton pursued higher education at the University of Oregon, where he earned a degree in advertising.
Newton's journey into writing began with screenwriting, and he has written several screenplays over the years. However, later, Newton turned to writing novels.
His first novel, Chameleon (2021), is a Southern Gothic tale that captures the dark and haunting atmosphere of the genre. It was followed by The Alternator (2021), an epic tale centred on the harrowing journey of a truck driver who Newton describes as more a witness to the story than its creator.
Newton's third novel, Day Moon Howl (2022), explored the tragic lives of a high school auction team and their misguided teacher and demonstrated his versatility and commitment to exploring new themes and settings.
Newton's most recent work, The Cracks That Held (2024), sets in an alternate version of the United States. The novel takes place in July 1976 and imagines a world where the country, long divided by a civil war that neither side could win conclusively, is on the brink of reunification. As citizens from north and south await the opening of the heavily guarded border, a new government attempts to restore the nation's lost identity and culture.
B.H. Newton currently lives on the outskirts of Oak Ridge, Tennessee. He enjoys hiking, fishing and listening to vinyl records.
