Hannah Dolby

Hannah Dolby is a British author known for her joyful historical books that blend humor and mystery. She received recognition as the runner-up in the Comedy Women in Print Awards for her debut novel, No Life for a Lady (2023).

Hannah Dolby was born in Edinburgh. Her first job was in the circus, an experience that fueled her quest to keep life interesting. She trained as a journalist in Hastings and worked in public relations, promoting various institutions, including museums, galleries, palaces, gardens, and even Dolly the sheep.

Later, Hannah completed the Curtis Brown selective three-month novel writing course.

Her first book, No Life for a Lady, published by Head of Zeus, follows the story of Violet Hamilton, a determined woman in Victorian Hastings. At 28, Violet's father worries about her marriage prospects, but Violet is more interested in finding her missing mother, Lily, who disappeared from Hastings Pier ten years earlier. Violet goes on a quest with a detective that puts her reputation and safety at risk.

The Daily Mail described it as "glorious" and "funny from the start."

Her second book, How to Solve Murders Like a Lady (2024), continues Violet Hamilton's adventures. Now a Lady Detective in Victorian Hastings, Violet faces obstacles when investigating the death of a local woman found on the beach.

The novel blends elements of Jane Austen and Sherlock Holmes, presenting a delightful mystery filled with seaside scandal and Victorian charm.

Hannah Dolby now resides in London.
