    ’m honest. I’m strong. I’m loyal. I’m a good worker.
I have survived hurts in the past. I can survive
present and future hurts. I can face the conflict,
work through it, and truly be at peace

I had grown to love and trust some people,
who later betrayed me and said some very harmful
and hurtful things about me; all of which were not true.
    They further spread these lies.
I said things like, “I don’t care. It doesn’t matter. I’ll be okay. It’s no big deal.”
I never let the full hurt of all that sink deep in my heart and soul.
I did the religious thing and just prayed for forgiveness for them.

This distortion came from fear; fear of pain,
fear of rejection, fear of being inadequate to
    face the problems, etc

avoid conflict. I also deal with the fear of being inadequate in situations and of being abandoned or left behind.

I am settled. I am okay. When I have been hurt by someone or something, I tell myself, “I’m okay.
What happened wasn’t so bad and it really didn’t
hurt me or affect me.” I bury the hurt to the
point I really don’t feel it.
I have had no way to experience sadness, grief, disappointment, etc.

I have spent over 60 years building up this counterfeit self. I have convinced myself that genuine peace is simply the absence of conflict.
I know I escape through watching television, eating, drinking, etc.
The journey will be difficult for me because the counterfeit is seemingly so close to the real thing.
    For example: am I being polite, kind, engaging, etc. because these are genuine acts of kindness;
or am I simply avoiding conflict?
I can see the counterfeit is harming me physically, spiritually, and emotionally.

Even though I am settled; this does not mean I am experiencing genuine peace.

though I am settled; this does not mean I am experiencing genuine peace.

have exchanged genuine peace for the cheap substitute, “I am settled. I’m okay.” My version of peace is an insult to the biblical definition of peace.

something is approaching that will cause conflict or pain, I will just ignore it or avoid it. I can say that these people don’t matter to me when they hurt me. I can emotionally write them off. Just as long as there is nothing in my face, “I am settled.” It takes a great deal of ignoring reality to get to this state.
