Cans (NHB Modern Plays)

A searingly funny debut play about death, betrayal, and the possibility of forgiveness. And cider.
Jen's dad was a chat-show host, a national treasure. But now he's dead and Jen's getting spat at in supermarkets. To make matters worse, Uncle Len has made it his mission to help her get over it.
Hiding from a very hostile world in a very shitty garage, Len and Jen down cider, drown mice, talk crap, mend cats, share painful secrets, tell appalling jokes, and try to work out whether either of them has any kind of future whatsoever.
Cans premiered at Theatre503, London, in 2014.

JEN. But I’ve gone from living in the shadow of that to living in the shadow of a dirty fucking sex case. Which isn’t really fair, is it?

crying, and I was like ‘I’d fucking swap everything I’ll ever have to see you one more time, you fuck.’
    Pause.
You know what the ironic thing is, Len? Growing up I was always comparing myself to him, this fucking saint of a man – and I never, ever measured up. Whenever I was fucking something up, which was always, I was always like – ‘come on, Jen, what would Dad do here?’ You know, like ‘what would Jesus do?’
