It is a problem in many regards that the theories might not have practical benefit or value to most practitioners, but at least we don’t have to worry about them writing purely to protect their corporate affiliations. Early in their careers, most are not even able to receive grants, so their loyalty often is to their academic field. They are more concerned with finding a nugget of incremental theory to be accepted by their peers, than they are to how relevant that nugget might be in the ‘real world.’
