    In its initial vision and strategic phase; from the idea to reality an IC needs to be made up of individuals who thrive on challenges and unknowns and handle multi-tasking. All members accept and work on what needs to be done. Events dictate and all the planning goes out the window. Also, each member needs to know the overall picture because in the well functioning IC no one acts in a vacuum. Primarily, at this phase they are like a wolf pack with the alpha wolf (the entrepreneur) calling the shots.

    Regardless of setting and context, leaders are leaders are leaders as long as they hold power over others. This is a fact even when leaders are enlightened enough to empower, support and even to follow, as required, those dependent on them. As long as a specific leader exists, their presence and philosophy is felt and influences the IC.
