She wears black, dresses in the latest fashion, and tells no one who she is.
When the elegant widow Mrs. Dale settles in a sleepy English village, the gossip starts at once. Respectable ladies murmur that a woman so stylish has no business in mourning, and young Mabin Rose is warned by her nervous stepmother and the vicar’s wife to keep well away. But spirited, outspoken Mabin refuses to judge anyone by the cut of her gown. Drawn to the enigmatic newcomer, she is soon caught up in whispers, suspicion and hints of a past that Mrs. Dale would rather keep buried.
Who is the lady in black, and what is she hiding?
A classic late-Victorian tale of village prejudice, appearances that deceive, and a mysterious love affair, from Florence Warden, one of the most prolific mystery writers of her day. Now available as an audiobook.
