Caroline O'Donoghue

Caroline O'Donoghue is an Irish bestselling novelist, podcaster and screenwriter. Her fantasy series for Young Adults, All Our Hidden Gifts, is a New York Times bestseller, and The Rachel Incident is being adapted for television by Universal Studios.

Caroline O'Donoghue grew up in Rochestown and attended Scoil Mhuire before studying at UCC. At twenty-one, she moved to London to pursue her writing career amidst Cork's recession.

In London, she balanced various jobs, including roles in hospitality, film, advertising, and recruitment, while contributing to blogs, women’s lifestyle websites, and Irish newspapers.

In 2018, her debut novel, Promising Young Women, was published and received praise for its distinct voice and compelling narrative, drawing comparisons to Sally Rooney and Rosita Sweetman.

She further explored her literary prowess with the young adult series All Our Hidden Gifts, comprising the titles All Our Hidden Gifts (2021), The Gifts That Bind Us (2022), and Every Gift a Curse (2023), with the first book making its mark as a New York Times bestseller in the young adult category.

O'Donoghue's novel The Rachel Incident (2023) explores friendship and identity, especially within the context of the LGBTQ+ community, in a heartfelt way.

The fiction received acclaim for its poignant yet humorous portrayal of Irish lives, earning commendation from critics such as The Washington Post's Ron Charles for its insightful storytelling.

It is currently in the process of being adapted for television.

Additionally, her commercial women’s fiction podcast, Sentimental Garbage, has gained a global following with over 5 million downloads worldwide.

Caroline O’Donoghue currently lives in London.
