This is what happens when a dog owner decides a step counter is not enough.

Why does AI fail to understand living beings?

In a world where pet technology fills our screens with dashboards, breed statistics, and cheerful summaries, we have mistaken measurement for understanding.

We know how to track the dog.
We have not yet learned how to recognize the individual.

The Normative Trap is a founder's manifesto for a new kind of artificial intelligence: one built not around population averages, but around temporal identity, individual baselines, behavioral drift, and the quiet information carried by silence.

Elodie Aishwarya P. Remoissenet, founder of Barkley AI and certified canine behavior specialist, argues that today's connected collars, dashboards, and generative AI wrappers remain trapped at the surface. They can count steps, summarize activity, and speak fluently — but they cannot yet understand what it means for one living being to change over time.

This book is not a manual for tracking your dog.

It is a call to rebuild intelligence so it becomes worthy of the living individuals it claims to serve.

Because your dog is not an average.
