Morgan Cry

Morgan Cry is the pen name of Gordon Brown, a Scottish crime and thriller author of eleven books, a novella, and several short stories.

Gordon James Brown was born in Glasgow. He embarked on his literary journey after graduating from the University of Strathclyde. He has a Post Graduate Diploma in Management Studies and an MBA.

Before venturing into writing, he carved a professional path through various companies, including Tennent's Lager, and established Circuit Break, specializing in marketing strategy.

In a former life, Gordon delivered pizzas in Toronto, sold non-alcoholic beer in the Middle East, launched a creativity training business, floated a high-tech company on the London Stock Exchange, compered the main stage at a two-day music festival and was once booed by 49,000 people while on the pitch at a major football Cup Final.

His debut novel, Falling (2009), and its sequel, 59 Minutes (2010), earned acclaim. Brown introduced the character Craig McIntyre in The Catalyst(2013) and continued his narrative in Meltdown (2014). In 2016, he joined forces with Strident, resulting in the reworked releases Darkest Thoughts (2017), Furthest Reaches (2017), and Deepest Wounds (2018).

Crossing Borders, Down & Out Books published Falling in the U.S. in 2016, followed by the sequel, Falling Too (2017). In March 2019, Brown unveiled the fourth instalment in the McIntyre series, Highest Lives.

Polygon, an imprint of Birlinn Ltd, signed Brown in late 2019 for his crime thriller Thirty-One Bones, set in the fictional town of El Descaro in Spain, released under Morgan Cry in 2020. He also contributed to the Bouchercon 2016 anthology Blood on the Bayou.

In May 2022, Polygon released Six Wounds, the second installment in the Daniella Coulstoun series. Simultaneously, Red Dog Press inked a two-book deal with Brown, resulting in Any Day Now (2022) and No More Games (2023).

Gordon is a founding director of Bloody Scotland, Scotland’s International Crime Writing Festival, a DJ on local radio and also runs a strategic planning consultancy.

Gordon Brown lives in Scotland and is married with two children.
