"e;Wonderful entertainment from first page to last."e; Chicago Sunday TribuneA past dispute … When the irascible Lord Darracott's eldest son dies unexpectedly, the noble family must accept their estranged Yorkshire cousin as heir apparent. They are convinced he will prove to be a sadly vulgar person, but nothing could have prepared the beleaguered family for the arrival of Major Hugo Darracott … A present deception … His clever and beautiful cousin Anthea is sure there's more to the gentle giant than Hugo's innocent blue eyes and broad Yorkshire brogue would lead one to believe. But even she doesn't guess what he's capable of, until a family crisis arises and only Hugo can preserve the family's honor, leading everybody on a merry chase in the process … What Readers Say:"e;What Heyer does best: comedy, engaging characters, and excellent writing."e;"e;A very enjoyable romp with a positively masterly denouement."e;"e;Georgette Heyer reaches the pinnacle of her skill with this book."e;"e;Among the best of Heyer's Regency novels very, very funny."e;"e;The pitch-perfect comedy, as the Ajax takes the reins of the family, is fantastic."e;Georgette Heyer wrote over fifty novels, including Regency romances, mysteries, and historical fiction. She was known as the Queen of Regency romance, and was legendary for her research, historical accuracy, and her extraordinary plots and characterizations.

My god! I've never in my life laughed so long and hard. Such a treat it was. I was so stitched up that it took me almost 15 minutes to read two pages. Not so much of a romance as a humorous and light hearted comedy with a smidgen of romance woven through. The ending was hilarious and yet quite suspenseful. The best read all year and by far the funniest thing I daresay I've ever read. I will undoubtedly undertake the reading of every Georgette Heyer book I can get my hands on.
