The book was first published in 1949. It is considered to be the author’s one of the best books. The book basically explores how the women were treated throughout history. “The Second Sex” is often said to be a major work of feminist philosophy and the origin of the second wave feminism.
Beauvoir did a lot of research and completed the writing of the book in about fourteen months. At that time she was 38 years old.
