Spanish and Heritage Language Education in the United States

The study examines the effects of formal instruction on the acquisition of standard Spanish, looks at the expression of conditionality in different tasks produced by heritage learners of spanish in the United States. Another corpus compiled from traditional foreign language students of Spanish is used for comparison. A comprehensive summary of Hispanic heritage language education in the U.S. is included, and pedagogical implications are suggested based on the the findings.
