Planning and Management of Water Resources

Water resources are sources of water that are useful or potentially useful. Uses of water include agricultural, industrial, household, recreational and environmental activities. Virtually all of these human uses require fresh water. Fresh water is a renewable resource, yet the world’s supply of clean, fresh water is steadily decreasing as the world population continues to rise. In an ideal world, water management planning has regard to all the competing demands for water and seeks to allocate water on an equitable basis to satisfy all uses and demands. As cities offer the best opportunities for selling produce, farmers often have no alternative to using polluted water to irrigate their crops. As water becomes more scarce the importance of how it is managed grows vastly. The present book is an effort to provide the details related to water resources and then utilisation. It discuses the water resource potentiality and its utilization pattern, problem of water quality, water supply for domestic use and agriculture, impact of droughts on water supply, planning and management for sustainable development of water resources in rural areas. This book is useful for public health engineering departments, state and central ground water board, agricultural departments, planners, non-government organisations, research scholars of geography, geology and other allied disciplines.
