The PCOS Plain-Language Companion

If you have polycystic ovary syndrome—or suspect you do—you already know that the information out there can feel overwhelming, conflicting, or alarmist. This book is different. Written with warmth and grounded in mainstream physiology, The PCOS Plain-Language Companion gently walks you through what PCOS actually is, how it affects your hormones, metabolism, and daily life, and what evidence-informed steps you can take to feel better—without extreme restrictions or false promises. You will learn how small, sustainable changes in nutrition, movement, sleep, and stress management can support your body's natural rhythms, reduce symptoms, and improve your long-term health. Whether your main concerns are irregular cycles, unwanted hair, weight gain, or fertility, this guide offers clear explanations, practical examples, and the kind of reassurance that comes from real understanding. You are not alone, and you are not broken. Part of The Cycle-Aware Woman Library.

About the author

Margaret Ashton is a women's-health educator and writer who has spent more than two decades helping women make sense of their hormonal health. With a background in health science and patient education, she specializes in translating complex endocrinology—thyroid, adrenal, metabolic, and reproductive health—into clear, practical guidance women can actually use. Margaret developed her whole-life approach after seeing how often women were left without answers: bounced between specialists, or told their lab results were 'normal' while they still felt unwell. Her work focuses on hormonal literacy across the entire lifespan, from a first period to the years beyond menopause. She believes that understanding your own body is the foundation of good care, and she writes to give women the language and confidence to advocate for themselves. She lives on the coast with her husband, two grown children, and a stubborn vegetable garden.
