Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest: Volume 13

The battle to determine the fate of Tortus has finally begun. With Hajime and his companions deep inside the Sanctuary, the majority of those left defending the world from the army of apostles are just regular people. Despite their best efforts, the combined forces of the world continue to be pushed back—but just when it looks as though all hope is lost, Hajime’s final trump card kicks in. Meanwhile, Hajime himself faces off against Ehitruje, the self-styled god of this world. And in order to rescue his beloved vampire princess and return home, Hajime will need to transcend even the title of world’s strongest.

What a lovely end to an entertaining and unexpectedly deep series. I do wish we had more of a peek into their happy home life but I guess that kind of indulgence doesn't make for great storytelling.

The only criticism I have is that the characterization of the -Bels comes across as VERY transphobic. It’s unfortunate because it’s a good tale with all kinds of sweet and profoundly insightful moments but I can’t bring myself to recommend the series to people I know because of the -Bels. The stereotype feels incredibly hurtful and cruel in its humor.

Religion exists to serve the people, not the other way around.
The church should be a place people can go to for refuge and solace, not a stern overseer, for the people have the right to live freely.
The best god is one who does nothing. One that simply watches over the lives of mortals and blesses them from up high.
If people need salvation, they should turn to each other.
If people need support, they should turn to each other.
Those who do good are holy men, regardless of what robes they wear.
These are the precepts of our new church.
