    A Touch of Spain
    Bullfighters were popular in Spain, and their fashion was popular in the United States. The matador, or bullfighter, wears a certain type of hat and jacket. Designers offered matador hats and bolero jackets in rich colors from yellow to red and black. Fringe was frequently used in these designs.

    You probably just wear gloves in the winter when it’s cold. In the 1950s, women wore them to dress up. It was one of the accessories that every lady had to have. Gloves were made of cotton or the new nylon. White and cream were the most popular colors.

    They wore it in all seasons, during hot and cold weather. After work, men would relax in their gray flannel suits after removing their ties.

    Gregory Peck (1916–2003) starred in the 1956 film The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit. The gray flannel suit became a sort of uniform for middle-class businessmen. It was more than just an outfit. It came to symbolize corporate America.

    This was the new look for the fifties. It was much more feminine than the utility look of the past decade. Best of all, you could use as much material and decoration as you liked. The war was over, and material was available.
