    It is like we have played a giant trick on ourselves and we believe it is shameful to even talk about these things—so we shut down and isolate ourselves. And the more separate we feel—the guiltier we feel. The only way that we can heal is to begin to open up and expose these things.

    Our parents did not say, Some day when you are a certain age; you will have sexual desires, and there are ways that you can satisfy these desires; if you would like to masturbate, then please go ahead; if you have any problems, just talk about it at dinner tonight; and if you have any shame around body parts, that’s all right—it’s just a trick of the ego—and we still love you.

    It wants you to feel guilty—to keep you from waking up. This is because if you wake up, the ego is out of business.
